Community members can drive a submersible vehicle, fire a cannon, and launch a paper rocket at Newhart Middle School’s Earth Day celebration on Friday, April 20.
The school’s second annual Earth Day celebration will feature an array of hands-on science experiences and activities that kick off at 5 p.m. on campus at 25001 Veterans Way. The Earth Day celebration will also illustrate Newhart’s emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
Fun-filled activities include a virtual field trip featuring a Newhart science teacher leading a lesson via remote broadcast from Oso Creek; a tour and exhibition of an alternative fuel vehicle; and a bevy of games, food and silent auction. The event includes exhibitions and demonstrations of science and technology in action. Tickets for food, some science booths and raffle baskets will be available at the event. Proceeds from Earth Day will benefit Newhart’s technology initiative and the Surfrider Foundation (www.surfrider.org)
